What is reformer pilates?

what is reformer pilates?

Reformer Pilates. What is it?  Apart from my Passion.......

You may or may not recognise the Pilates Reformer with Tower.  It's a great piece of equipment that consists of a sliding carriage with springs, straps, poles and boxes.

You can lie on it, kneel, stand or sit on it to create a

balanced body and strong core.  A "powerhouse," as creator Joseph Pilates called it.

The Reformer/Tower offers all of the Mat Pilates core building benefits and more.  The resistance of the pulley and spring system offers more than what you get with just your body weight on a mat.  It is not a substitute for Mat but a 'different' challenge.  I also have the Merrithew Stability Chair.  This is also a great piece of equipment, so versatile and user friendly for any age, condition and ability.

The classes we teach are mainly Reformer/Tower classes with some Mat, Barre and Zenga added too for variation.   I always suggest if you have never done Pilates before to start with Reformer because Joseph designed it to assist people in becoming body aware and to progress to the mat where often people find it just too challenging in the beginning.  That is not to say the reformer is not challenging, just in a different way.  It is a great foundation to learn where you are in space so you can self practice on your own doing the mat exercises with confidence which is always where people struggle because they worry they are doing the move wrong.  Our classes will give you the confidence to self practice safely and progress with your practice.  For health and safety I always ask people to invest in a 1:1 if they have never been on the reformer.  This helps you to use the machine safely in a class environment or a 1:1 session.  I also encourage people to research on the internet, what the reformer is all about so you have an idea prior to coming.......that way you maximise your session.  My aim is to make sessions affordable and enjoyable for everyone.  Pilates is a passion to me and I want to share the benefits.  The classes always vary and the most important thing is to have fun whilst in the session.  It's all about movement, mind and body and feeling rejuvenated at the end of the session.
